Behavioral Health RN Charge Nurse
Job Description
BOS Medical Staffing is looking for an experienced and highly skilled Charge Nurse to oversee day-to-day operations of a 24/7 Behavioral Health Crisis Center. This position will report directly to the Nurse Manager and be responsible for the coordination of unit activities, ensuring quality patient care, and managing staff during their shift. Shifts are available immediately.
Available Hours: Full-Time hours available!
- 7P-7A AND 7A-7P (36/48 rotation, includes every other weekend)
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead nurse on shift, directing nursing staff and coordinating care delivery while ensuring adequate coverage and staffing.
- Assist/lead in crisis intervention and de-escalation using trained techniques and behavioral interventions.
- Ensure that all staff members adhere to agency policies and procedures and maintain high standards of patient care.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Manager to address staffing issues, including scheduling, performance concerns, and coverage gaps.
- Count controlled substances, syringes, needles, and sharps at the beginning of each shift with another staff member and sign count logs
- Communicate information to nursing staff, physicians, health care unit supervisory personnel, and other staff as necessary.
- Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
- Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
- Remain familiar with emergency codes and procedures for behavioral health crises and medical emergencies
- Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
- Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:
- Current, unencumbered nursing license
- At least 1 year of experience preferred.
- Basic computer skills for charting
- Previous experience in behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, emergency services, or a crisis setting strongly preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems
- Ability to work as part of team and multi-task
- Candidates must pass a criminal background check including an FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Check and Pre-employment drug screen
